Bremen School Board Updated on School Operations

The Bremen School Board members recently got an update on how the school year is progressing so far this year.

Elementary/Middle School Principal Larry Yelaska noted that students and adults are following the mask mandate and are adapting well.  Sixty children started the year with virtual learning, but some of those students have since transitioned to in-person instruction.

High School Principal Bruce Jennings said the only negative aspect of the school year so far is student engagement with virtual learning.  Fifty-four percent of remote learners are failing at least one class.  Jennings stated that several students are failing all of their classes and measures are being taken to reach out to the students and the parents to get them more engaged with school work.

Beyond that, Jennings said the extra curricular programs are thriving.  Seniors have ordered caps and gowns and other seasonal activities are ongoing.

He added that the attendance rate is at 96 and 97 percent.

Both principals thanked Superintendent Dr. Jim White and the school board for making the decision to delay the start of school for a week and then return to a hybrid option for learning.
