Rochester Man Arrested after Police Receive Reckless Driving Complaints

Charles Elmore

A Rochester man was arrested on Friday, Aug. 7 after police received phone calls of a reckless driver.

At 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were called to the 8,000 block of 1st Road near Lapaz after a person driving a pickup truck apparently drove recklessly through several planted fields and a resident’s yard.  The responding officer did not find the vehicle in question, but did reportedly observe damage to crops near 1st Road and along Juniper Road.

Approximately 35 minutes later, an officer noticed an erratic driver in a pickup truck weaving and speeding while traveling south on U.S. 31 near 11th Road.  A traffic stop was conducted and police say the driver, 36-year-old Charles Elmore, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated.  It is believed that Elmore was the driver who reportedly caused damage in Lapaz, according to the report.

Elmore was transported from the scene to the Plymouth hospital.  Following his discharge, he was taken to the Marshall County Jail where he was jailed on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering and resisting law enforcement.  Other charges may be filed by the Marshall County Prosecutor.

He has since bonded out of the Marshall County Jail on a $1,505 cash bond.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
