Those seeking rental assistance due to COVID-19 have until Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET to complete an application at www.indianahousingnow.org.
Executive Director of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Agency Jacob Sipe said thousands of applications have been received for assistance.
Sipe commented, “More than half of over 30,000 applications we have received were submitted in the first week. Since then we have received around 3,000 to 4,000 applications per week.”
Sipe encourages those who need assistance to submit applications by next week’s deadline.
“For renters whose current income is lower than it was on March 16, Indiana’s Rental Assistance Program makes payments directly to landowners on behalf of their renters. We can provide up to $500 per month for four months up to $2,000,” said Sipe.
He said it may take several days for the review team to respond to the applicants. Due to the high demand, multiple statewide partners are assisting with the review process, including 20 members from the Indiana National Guard.
More than $7 million has been issued to participating landlords since the first week of August.
