Over 1,100 new COVID-19 Cases Statewide, Local Students Diagnosed

Another 1,164 Indiana residents have tested positive with COVID-19 as shown in Thursday’s daily update from the Indiana State Department of Health.

The number of Hoosiers diagnosed with COVID-19 is 90,504.  The Regenstrief Institute calculates that 79 percent of those diagnosed with the novel coronavirus have recovered while 18 percent are actively fighting the virus.  Four percent, or 3,047 Hoosiers, have died from COVID-19 which is an increase of six from Wednesday’s report. 

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation announced that a student at the Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 and school officials are working with the Starke County Health Department in the matter.  According to the school’s Facebook post, officials have begun contact tracing and notifying parents of students who have been identified as close contacts.  Students who are close contacts will be required to quarantine for 14 days and continue with virtual learning. 

At Bremen Public Schools, officials say a high school student tested positive for COVID-19 and the “circumstances surrounding the case does not warrant contact tracing nor additional precautions.” 

There was a student who tested positive this week at Triton Elementary School and steps were taken to conduct contact tracing and other precautions. 

In Thursday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health, Marshall County’s total number of positive COVID-19 cases increased by eight to 871, Starke County’s increased by six to 199 and Pulaski County’s total number of cases is steady at 93.  More new tests are being submitted on a daily basis. 

There were no new deaths reported in the Tri-County area or in the surrounding counties.
