Marshall County Election Board Reviews Bremen School Referendum Question

Marshall County Election Board: Sean Surrisi, Deb VanDeMark, Rick Huff, and Voter Registration Deputy Melinda Keilman

The Marshall County Election Board members reviewed paperwork on Wednesday in order to place the Bremen Public Schools referendum question on the November ballot.

Bremen Public School Superintendent Dr Jim White previously reported that the school is looking to hire mental health therapists, a counselor and another school nurse with the money generated from the referendum and believes it would in the best interest of the students.

The paperwork was presented to the Election Board to be certified to be included on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot.

Clerk Deb VanDeMark read the question aloud from the paperwork approved by the Department of Local Government Finance.

VanDeMark read, “For the eight (8) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Bremen Public Schools impose property tax rate that does not exceed six cents ($0.06) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the school corporation for the purpose of funding student health services including an additional nurse and student mental health support?”

The Marshall County Election Board members voted unanimously to include the question on the General Election ballot.  The referendum question will only be available to Bremen voters.
