Students at the John Glenn School Corporation started the school calendar year with virtual learning on Aug. 11 and school officials are reviewing options on when a hybrid model of virtual learning and in-person instruction may begin.
A parent of a student at the corporation pleaded with school board members last week to return to in-person instruction as soon as possible. Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained to the board that he’s collaborating with the St. Joseph County Health Department and the Marshall County Health Department to come up with the best protocols for health safety.
Winchell said that he is working to see what the COVID-19 numbers are in zip codes specifically affecting John Glenn Schools and to have more conversations with all officials to determine the best decision for the students and staff members.
Winchell said it is the hope of school officials to return to school buildings on Sept. 8, with continued virtual learning for those families who choose that option. Part of the decision on the return to in-person instruction will depend on discussions with the Teachers Union.
