John Glenn School Board Looks at Improvement Projects at North Liberty Elementary School

John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell brought forth information to the school board members this week compiled from Barton Coe Vilamaa about facility needs at the North Liberty Elementary School.

He said with a proposed solar project on the campus, he thought that a listing of the high priority needs at that campus be analyzed.

Winchell commented, “We’ve got complete new HVAC and controls, replacement of HVAC units, some different exhaust fans, add switches to the gym, upgrade exterior building lights and LED inside and outside, replace all of the older electrical panels in the building, replace the phone/video entry system, replace all exiting windows, re-roof the areas that haven’t been roofed since 1999, replace interior doors and hardware throughout building, and upgrade the entrance of the building to a more secured entryway.”

The total pricetag for all improvements is estimated at $3.6 million.

Lisa Huntington from Baker Tilly reviewed financing options for the project with the board which could result in a slight tax increase, but assessed valuations have dipped which may not result in much of a difference in tax bills.  No decisions were made.

The board did approve a motion to advertise for a public hearing on the proposed renovation and improvements at North Liberty Elementary School.  The date and time will be determined.
