The John Glenn School Board members took action last week to approve a donation of land to the town of North Liberty.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell explained that the donation is for the proposed walking trail for a Stellar Communities project as previously discussed with the board. The proposed path would take the trail east from School Trail south beyond the track at the North Liberty Elementary School, and it would curve to go south along the school property, cross Center Street (State Road 4) and join Tamarack Trail. A boardwalk would need to be installed on the land east of the school as the trail would run into some swamp land.
The official request from the town was 1.5 acres which is estimated at $27,000.
The board members commented that this is a positive joint effort with the school as well as the town and unanimously approved the donation as presented.
Winchell noted that proper fencing will be installed following the construction of the trail to protect the school property.
