Downed Trees Close Roads, Residents Warned to Avoid Fallen Power Lines

The local area is cleaning up after Monday’s storm. The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency is warning motorists not to drive around barricades and road closed signs. Residents are also asked not to try to remove limbs with power lines in them, due to the risk of electrocution.

The Marshall County Highway Department says at least 50 fallen trees have been reported. Meanwhile, the Starke County Highway Department reported on Facebook that it got more than 40 reports of fallen trees in the first two hours after the storm hit, and volunteer firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, and highway maintenance workers were working to clear the roads.

Downed power lines left many NIPSCO and Kankakee Valley REMC customers without power, and a fallen line had U.S. 421 closed near Pulaski County Road 700 North. The North Judson Park Board shared pictures of fallen trees at Norwayne Field on Facebook, and said the facility was temporarily closed, due to the damage.
