The new school year at Argos Community Schools is off to a good start.
Superintendent Ned Speicher commented that students began the school year on Monday on a virtual basis, but will return to the classroom on Aug. 24. Overall, he said it was a positive start to the year.
Speicher commented, “We had our buses out and running. We provided lunches to anyone who requested it and we provided deliveries for any devices that weren’t working or who needed devices. The teachers are in and they’re instructing in their classrooms on their devices and pushing it out with video and live to kids out in their homes. It’s still better to get them in school as soon as we can.”
Speicher said all of the superintendents in the county continue to meet with the Marshall County Health Department to determine a safe return to in-person instruction.
“The numbers have been coming down in Marshall County. As of today, we’re planning to open on the (August) 24th unless something changes. That’s about where we’re at. We meet every week with the Health Department to see what the latest instructions are as we move forward.”
Spiecher noted that five or six percent of the student population has opted to stay in a virtual learning capacity when school opens in-person next week.
