The Marshall County Community Foundation announced the Spring 2020 Community Funds awards.
Community Fund endowment funds are the most flexible and responsive of the Foundation’s funds in addressing current and emerging needs. Grants from unrestricted endowment funds typically support projects focusing on the arts, education, health and human services, recreation, and the environment.
These grant recipients include All Things New who received $1,000 to provide a residential addiction recovery program with support for indigent care, purchase of program curriculum, resident education, and licensed counselor continuing education.
The Bourbon Main Street Initiative received $800 for two new benches for the downtown square in Bourbon. The Bremen Girls Softball League got $4,800 to repair the softball fields; Crossing National Inc, got $7,500 to fund the construction of updated, ADA compliant restrooms and funds for Direct Student Support; David’s Courage received $5,000 for COVID-19 assistance; Drew’s Gift of Music got $9,000 for start-up costs for peer-to-peer grief support; the Marshall County Neighborhood Center received $16,277 for ADA compliance and safety plus security upgrades; and Potawatomi Park was awarded $4,800 to purchase a rotary chopper. The United Way of Marshall County/Fund the Essentials also received $40,834 to provide food, housing and utility assistance to Marshall County families impacted by COVID-19.
Additionally, the Maxinkuckee Adventure Sailing organization was awarded a Ralph C. Vonnegut, Jr. grant in the amount of $5,977 to enhance safety of the low-cost, learn-to-sail programs.
The Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Initiative received a multi-year grant for $30,000 in Community Funds for the Culver biking/walking trails and Habitat for Humanity and $10,000 from the Vonnegut Fund for the Culver biking/walking trails.
