The second round of the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program is on hold.
INDOT officials say communities who were awarded Community Crossings funds in the January call for projects will receive their matching funds as awarded. However, in looking to offer the second call for projects, officials say state and local revenue streams are well below forecast as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic and efforts made to slow the spread of the virus. INDOT and the State Budget Agency will continue to review revenues and look at options in the fall for the potential of opening the application process. For now, the second call for projects is on hold.
Many communities have already sent applications to INDOT for the July call for projects, but those applications will be held until further analysis of the revenue forecast.
Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters and Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler commented to each board of commissioners Monday that their departments were awarded funding for projects in the January call.
