Bourbon utility employees will be installing new residential water meters beginning next week.
Bourbon Water Superintendent Steve Stacy told the Bourbon Town Council members last week that J&K Communications installed an antenna on top of the water tower earlier this month in anticipation of the new technology with the new water meters.
Stacy said Neco company officials will be coming in on July 27th to help with the installation, although town employees will be going into residents’ homes to complete the process. Barring any problems, the process should take about five to ten minutes.
Bourbon Town Council President Ward Byers said employees should be wearing masks while inside the home in case there could be someone who is positive with COVID-19. Homeowners will be contacted prior to the employees’ arrival and dates should be made available through the town’s Facebook page.
For the homeowners who aren’t home during the day for the change to be made, an after-hours appointment may be made to complete the process.
Over 80 meters need to be changed which may take about six weeks to complete. Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger and her deputies will be trained on the new billing system and additional features with the program.
