Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department Board Continues Start up Process

The board members of the newly-formed Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department are continuing to get their organization started with plans to improve parks and areas in the unincorporated areas of the county.

They will soon be working on a five year plan based on public input.  Gatherings will be scheduled in the coming months to get ideas from Marshall County residents on what they would like to see as possible projects.  A walking and biking trail to connect to other greater trails in the country has been discussed, but more ideas will be sought from the public.  No specific dates have been set.

A Friends of the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department organization may be an option down the road.

The board members are still looking for a mission and vision statement for the organization and they hope to get that finalized at the next meeting.

Until then, the board is looking at how they want to set up their funds.  Board Secretary Deb VanDeMark said they could either have a bank account independent from the county, or have fund line items set up within the county’s budget system.

The board will next meet on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) at the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
