Bremen School Board Approves Referendum Language

The Bremen School Board last week approved the wording of November’s school referendum question. It asks the school district’s voters for permission to raise property taxes by up to six cents per $100 of assessed valuation for an eight-year period.

Superintendent Dr. Jim White says that money would be used to increase mental health support for Bremen students. “We have a shortage of counselors, and I really need a couple more mental health therapists, a counselor, and another school nurse,” White says. “I have one nurse for about 1,500 kids, and that’s just stretching her pretty, pretty thin.”

White says the wording of the public question was unchanged from what was presented last month, and the Department of Local Government Finance had no objections to the language. It now goes to the Marshall County Election Board for inclusion on the November 3 ballot.
