Argos Students to Return to School Aug. 17 with Digital Learning

The Argos School Corporation will be delaying the start of school for one week and will offer digital learning for all students on Aug. 17.

The Argos School Board met in an emergency session on Thursday night to come to a quick decision so parents and students can start making plans for the start of school.

Speicher stated,  “I know in our community and even among the superintendents and among the leadership, we all have different beliefs on this and different feelings, but really it is very problematic for us as a school district and for you as leaders of the school district not to follow the recommendation of the medical authorities.”

Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the Marshall County Health Department strongly recommended to not start school in an in-person basis so several options were given to the school regarding the start of school.

“We would have five days at the end of the calendar which still gets us right at the first of June to for the end of the school year.”

Speicher added that the delay in the start of school to Aug. 17 would also allow the food services staff to get a schedule put together to offer meals to children.

Speicher said the overwhelming response by the community is to return to in-person instruction, but he stressed that the school needs to comply with the Health Department in their strong recommendation to delay the start of in-person instruction.

Students will be able to get their materials and devices on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. both nights at the school corporation and parents and students may speak to administrators and teachers during this time.
