New Swing Sets Coming to Freedom Park in Plymouth

Freedom Park in Plymouth will soon be getting new swing sets.

Plymouth Park Superintendent Michael Hite asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members for permission this week to move forward with the project.  With the uncertainty with revenues and funding, department heads are encouraged to seek approval from the board before tackling large-scale projects to make sure funds can withstand the projects.

Hite mentioned that the Freedom Park Committee has gotten some donations to help offset the cost of the swing sets.  He said The Troyer Group has done the building specifications and bid documents for the project.

Hite commented that the project has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the board’s blessing the project can resume.

The estimated cost of the project is $89,000.  Hite said the rest of the funds will come from $60,000 in donations and the rest through his budget.  He said the estimated shortfall was already included in this year’s budget.

Since the money has already been budgeted and it’s believed that the Park Department can support the funding, the request to move forward with the project was approved.  An additional appropriation will be advertised to allow the use of the donated funds toward this project.
