The newly-formed Marshall County Parks and Recreation Department held its first meeting Thursday night.
The five-member board includes President Greg Hildebrand, Vice President Adam Thada, Secretary Deb VanDeMark, Bremen Park Superintendent Brian Main and Richard Markley. That is the way the board organized for its first year.
They will be soon developing a vision statement and a five-year plan in order to be eligible for Land and Water Conservation Grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, among other things.
They will be operating from a donated budget and information on how residents or organizations can donate will be released soon.
In an initial discussion with no decisions made, the board members will be looking at helping develop connecting walking and biking trails in the county and overseeing the Memorial Forest, maybe overseeing some areas by the wetlands by Veteran’s Parkway, the Mill Pond area, initiating the development of kayak launches, and improving other areas owned by the county.
They agreed to meet every first Thursday after the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meetings where a time will be allowed for public comments.
