John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell asked the school board last week if he could pursue gathering information for a possible solar project at the school corporation.
He asked to research the topic with the hopes of reducing energy costs. He noted that there would be the initial cost of the installation of the project, but preliminary data shows a significant energy cost savings.
He wants to discuss information with NIPSCO and solar companies with a project at North Liberty Elementary School and other schools that have implemented similar energy projects.
Winchell also believes that the solar project could, in turn, bring about curriculum for students looking at renewable energy.
The school board members agreed to allow Winchell to research the project for future discussion.
