Pulaski County Health Department officials confirmed the first death related to COVID-19 on Saturday afternoon.
They say the death occurred on June 1. The male patient from Pulaski County was over the age of 60 and had been hospitalized as a COVID-19 patient. No other information about the patient will be released due to privacy laws.
“It saddens me to report that Pulaski County has now had its first fatality from COVID-19,” said Pulaski County Health Officer, Dr. Rex Allman. “The very real reality of this disease is that it has already killed over 396,000 people worldwide, and now that reality has come to us locally. We continue to strongly encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their family and friends, and the most vulnerable among us.”
In Saturday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health, Pulaski County reported 51 total cases of COVID-19.
The Pulaski County Health Department reminds residents to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds throughout the day and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
The CDC recommends that everyone wear a cloth face covering when out in public.
