Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman notified students and parents of some of the guidelines for the upcoming school year in a letter sent out this week.
She pointed out that the school calendars and schedules will not change. At-home learning is an option for students, but that must be declared by July 10 to either Elementary School Principal Erin Proskey or Middle/High School Principal Brett Berndt. However, any student who wants to participate in extra curricular activities must attend school.
Students and parents will be expected to self screen at home for symptoms of COVID-19. Temperatures may be taken at bus stops due to concern of potential symptomatic students. Students and staff shall be fever free for 72 hours before returning to school. A separate space will be identified in the school to isolate symptomatic students.
The Culver Community School Corporation is working with the Marshall County Health Department to determine a common response to confirmed cases of COVID-19. Each case will be handled on an individual basis.
Superintendent Shuman also stated that there will be greater restrictions on visitors who wish to enter any school building.
School administrators and teachers will be working to do what’s best to promote social distancing. They will also promote frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer will throughout the day. Cleansing wipes will be provided to sanitize door handles and frequently touched areas to slow the spread of germs.
Administrators have decided that lockers will not be used and students will have their own iPad. They will allow water bottles for filling at the water fountain filling station. If water bottles are not available, they can be purchased through lunch accounts.
The maintenance staff will use proven cleaning products and procedures to ensure a sanitized environment.
Parent meetings are planned in August where more information will be provided prior to the start of the school year.
