Members of the Argos community and parents of students who attend Argos Community School Corporation are encouraged to complete an electronic survey sent out by school officials this week.
Superintendent Ned Speicher said Tuesday that the survey went out the day after the approval of the school board. It is a survey about what may be included in a road map to reopen school. Speicher said that data received so far has been very helpful.
“We talked about our eLearning for the last two months and what parents thought worked well with that,” explained Speicher. “We asked people questions about their internet connectivity and if that was a problem with our eLearning. One of our questions was on buses on whether they will be using our buses or not, should we require physically distancing on our buses, should masks be worn by the children on our buses – just asking questions like that to get parent input to see what they think is important.”
He stated that over 100 survey responses were received on Tuesday. The response to a question about holding a parent information night is what Speicher is really interesting in seeing.
“It’s going to be an overwhelming response that the parents would like to have some meetings. We can do that in our auditorium. We can spread people out and we might have to have several meetings if we can’t get everyone in at one time, but we’ll see what the community wants and that’s what we’ll do. We’ll answer their questions and try to calm their fears that we’re going to take every step that we can to keep everyone safe and healthy.”
In the meantime, school officials are working on preliminary social distancing plans, cleaning and disinfecting methods, and how the instructional day will look like. A more detailed plan will be released in the near future.
