The Triton School Board gave permission to advertise for bids for the removal of the old gymnasium.
Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said no proposals were received by the March deadline so it is time to remove the building from the school’s grounds.
“It’s just one of those buildings that obviously everybody would love to keep, but the money it costs to upkeep that and/or the $1 million it takes to refurbish that and get it up to code and make it a little bit safer for the community is too costly for anyone in our community to tackle that project. So, right now we’re looking at removing that unless something crazy happens in the meantime,” stated Riffle.
The school board will review those bids following the deadline and choose the best price to remove the gym.
