The Pioneer Drive project in Plymouth will be let for bids in mid-June.
The purpose of the project is to widen a portion of Pioneer Drive in Plymouth to three lanes to accommodate an increase in truck traffic in that area north of U.S. 30 to 7B Road.
City Engineer Rick Gaul told the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members at their recent meeting that the bid letting date was pushed back two to three weeks due to COVID-19, but it shouldn’t affect the timeline too much.
The bids will be opened in a special meeting where Gaul will likely ask the members to allow a bid award based upon the lowest responsible bid and then move forward from there.
The project will be done with Community Crossings Matching Grant funds awarded to the City of Plymouth in the amount of $532,811.
Part of the project may include a detour on U.S. 30 for Pretzels, Inc. and the INDOT Plymouth District to accommodate work done at the intersection from time to time. Gaul said the engineers are working with Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters to find an appropriate route.
The members approved the documents for the project with a unanimous vote that included paperwork for the Community Crossings Matching Grant and the bond permit waiver paperwork.
