More COVID-19 Testing Coming to Marshall County

Marshall County Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger announced to the commissioners on Monday that more testing will be available to residents.  She told the commissioners on Monday that Marshall County was selected to be one of the 50 sites in the state for Optum testing.

“This is going to open up in mid-May and there will be more information coming on that,” explained Letsinger.  “The State is trying to get those counties that are more rural better testing capabilities.  There will be some close-contact testing and things of that nature.  There will be more information to come on that.”

Letsinger said she has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases since the allowance of elective surgeries.  She said many providers ask that a patient be tested for COVID-19 prior to a procedure and many are showing a positive result.

“There’s going to be a variety of reasons why we’re going to see our numbers rise.”

In addition to this testing, the Indiana State Department of Health will be operating a drive-thru COVID-19 testing clinic at the Plymouth High School starting on Wednesday, May 6 and going through Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Symptomatic healthcare workers will be tested along with first responders, essential workers, and those in a high risk category due to age, weight or underlying conditions.  This opportunity is also available to individuals that live in the same residence of those in the same priority categories.  A valid Driver’s License must be provided at the time of testing.
