The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Marshall County has sharply increased over the past week and Marshall County Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger addressed that topic on Wednesday.
In Wednesday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Marshall County was 80. The total was 50 just a week earlier.
Letsinger said that residents are more active in the county. They are visiting more public spaces which she believes is leading to an increase in positive cases. She also commented that an increase in testing is a contributing factor to that number.
Free COVID-19 testing for Indiana residents is being conducted at the Menominee Elementary School at 815 Discovery Lane in Plymouth in addition to any testing done at available health facilities in the county. Letsinger stressed that it takes 48 to 72 hours to get results from the tests. It could be a few days before the result is reported to the Indiana State Department of Health to be calculated in the daily numbers.
She noted that the number of positive test results in neighboring counties is also increasing as more people seek testing and are more active in their communities.
The free testing at the Menominee Elementary School in Plymouth is available until June 12. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms is encouraged to get tested, along with certain groups of people who don’t have symptoms. Residents over the age of 65, those with underlying health conditions like diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure, pregnant women, and members of minority populations that are at a higher risk should be tested.
Identification is required at the testing site.
