The number of Vote Centers available in Marshall County for the June 2 Primary Election was cut as the Marshall County Election Board members had a hard time getting poll workers to work during the election.
The Bremen Missionary Church, LaPaz Fire Station, National Guard Armory in Plymouth and the Tippecanoe Community Building will no longer be available as Vote Centers in the Primary Election.
Clerk Deb VanDeMark said she and Election Board member Rick Huff have exhausted efforts in recruiting poll workers at three of the locations. They did say that students have stepped up to help in the election which built confidence in the cause. Students who are at least 17 years of age and registered to vote by the General Election in November are eligible to work as a poll worker in the June Primary Election.
VanDeMark noted that the National Guard Armory is not available as the National Guard is on active duty through the end of June because of the health pandemic.
Those locations could be reconsidered if the number of Democrat poll workers increases to help keep operations at a political balance.
She encourages the voters who typically vote at a closed Vote Center to vote at the nearest location on Election Day, or vote early in person at the Clerk’s Office Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Monday, June 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. Early voting is also available on Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Clerk’s Office, Bremen Town Hall or the Culver Community Schools Administration Building.
The Vote Centers that will be open on Tuesday, June 2 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. include the United Methodist Church in Argos, Bremen High School, Matchett Center in Bourbon, Culver Community School Administration Building, Marshall County REMC, Knights of Columbus in Plymouth, Tyner Community Building and Pretty Lake Church Hall in Plymouth.
