As more testing becomes available to residents, the number of positive tests could increase. Marshall County Health Department Administrator Ashley Garcia made that comment to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning.
In Tuesday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Marshall County increased to 44. Starke County is at 27 positive cases while Pulaski County remains at 35. Those numbers are cumulative. Information on the number of active cases and patients who have recovered are not included in the report.
The report indicated that 481 additional residents statewide have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at the Indiana State Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories between April 11 and May 18. That is the third consecutive day the daily number of new cases declined.
In all, 28,705 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
An increase of 57 deaths was reported on Tuesday during a period from April 17 to May 18. A total of 1,678 Hoosiers have died of COVID-19.
Residents who have symptoms of COVID-19 and those who have been exposed and need a test to return to work are encouraged to visit a state-sponsored testing site for free testing. Individuals without symptoms who are at high risk because they are over age 65, have diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or another underlying condition, as well as those who are pregnant, live with a high-risk individual or are a member of a minority population that is at greater risk for severe illness, also are encouraged to get tested.
