Absentee voting by mail is encouraged for the June 2 Primary Election and many of the residents in Marshall County are voting by that option.
Clerk Deb VanDeMark told the Marshall County Election Board members on Friday last week that 1,121 ballots had been mailed out for the Primary Election. She said in 2018, there were only 128 mail ballots for the Primary Election and 812 in the General Election. In the last Presidential Election in 2016, there were 308 mail-in absentee ballots in the Primary Election and 819 mail ballots in General Election.
Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, the state has relaxed the guidelines on absentee voting. Typically, a voter needs to produce a reason why he or she won’t be at the polls on Election Day. For this election, a reason is not required.
Anyone can request an absentee ballot application. Call 574-936-8922 for the application and a ballot will be mailed if the application is filled out correctly. The clerk’s office will accept applications until Thursday, May 21.
