The John Glenn High School gym floor will be replaced in the near future.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell told the John Glenn School Board members in April that there is a termite infestation in the gymnasium which has caused some weak spots in the floor. He said a pesticide company from pest control okc came into treat the issue.
Four groups handpicked by the architecture and engineering firm Barton Coe Vilamaa will be looking at the gymnasium to produce bids for the project. Winchell said that there are several types of floor systems that will be reviewed and the best one chosen for the school corporation.
A substance called mastic was found underneath the gym floor and often times that substance can contain asbestos. Winchell said the material at the John Glenn High School gym was tested and found to not contain asbestos. That saved the corporation about $30,000 in an added expense.
More information will be delivered to the board concerning this project soon. New bleachers will be installed as part of this project which will meet ADA guidelines.
