Underground detention basin design changes will be made as part of the Hoham Drive project in Plymouth.
The project includes the widening of Hoham Drive from Michigan Street to a point 260 feet west of Western Avenue. This will allow for a 14-foot, two-way left turn west of Western Avenue and a dedicated eastbound right turn lane at Western Avenue. Curb, gutters and a sidewalk are a part of the project as well.
The project was originally slated to start in 2022. It is now expected to start in 2023.
There has been a discrepancy in the location of a retention pond. The initial placement later changed to where it would be placed on NIPSCO’s property on Hoham Drive as the flow couldn’t work with the first set of plans. The design company and NIPSCO have been working on a solution for the past several months.
A solution may have been found with a more costly underground detention basin. City Engineer Rick Gaul explained the location change to the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members last week.
“It’s at a location that sits clear at the front of the property out by the street,” said Gaul. “It will be essentially closer to the street and it’ll drain out, drain into the underground basin there, and then go into a single pipe out to the ditch.”
The original construction estimate for that change in the project was $150,000. That cost could be eligible for an 80/20 split with INDOT.
Gaul anticipates an increase in design fees for the changes. An estimate is anticipated to be presented to the commission members in June for approval.
The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members unanimously approved a motion to move forward to get proposals for all of the changes.
