Bremen Officials Make Decision Regarding Outdoor Pool Operations

The Bremen Park Board members made a recommendation to the Bremen Town Council Tuesday night to close the pool for the summer of 2020.

The Bremen Park and Recreation Board and the Bremen Park and Recreation Department members carefully considered the operation of the Bremen Public Pool for this summer, but the conditions and requirements for pool operation from both the State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention caused the park board members to determine that consistent and continual compliance could not be done, especially with the social distancing aspect.

They were hoping for a shortened season as outlined in the governor’s Back on Track plans, but the board members recommended to the town council to cancel the operation of the pool this summer.   The council approved that recommendation with a unanimous vote, following a lengthy discussion.

The board members did not take the decision lightly.  The safety of staff and patrons was their first priority in discussions.

Park Superintendent Brian Main told the town council members that most of the park’s major facilities are open.  Playground equipment remains closed and the water fountains will not be in operation.  Visitors must observe the social distancing requirement.
