Over $235,000 was raised as a local match for a new aerial fire truck for the Culver-Union Township Fire Department.
The fundraiser began in 2018 after discussing the need for an aerial fire truck for the department in order to help fight fires in taller structures. Since then, officials say 166 supporters that include individuals, families, businesses and organizations donated over $150,000 with another $80,000 in pledges to be collected over the next four years.
The Town of Culver and the Union Township Trustee also budgeted money for the purchase.
A Rosenbauer 100’ Low Profile Viper Aerial Truck will soon join the fleet of fire trucks at the station. It is expected to arrive this summer. It is currently under construction in Minnesota. The truck was purchased at a price of about $1,008,000.
An open house is anticipated at the Culver-Union Township Fire Department this summer.
