Marshall County Election Board Discusses Poll Workers, Vote Center Locations

The Marshall County Election Board members are going to see how many poll workers will be willing to work at the Vote Centers for the June 2 Primary Election.

Clerk Deb VanDeMark said there may be some older poll workers who choose not to work the polls this year.  The state is allowing the Election Board to seek college students to work the polls or any interested resident.

Board President Sean Surrisi suggested asking the Republican and Democratic Chairmans to see if they have had any interest yet for this election and then see how many people they would need to seek to work the polls.  They will see what the numbers are in two weeks and then determine if the Vote Center locations need to be consolidated to accommodate the number of poll workers.  VanDeMark noted that poll workers don’t have to be residents of Marshall County to work in this election.

They will also be contacting all of the representatives of the Vote Center sites to ensure that they will be willing to be a host for the Primary Election.

The Election Board will be providing safety equipment to the poll workers including gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer.  Poll workers will be required to wear a mask on Election Day for their safety and the safety of the voter.  Q-tips may also be provided to the voter so they can safely depress the buttons to choose their desired candidate, although that hasn’t been formally decided.

VanDeMark said most of their Vote Centers are large enough where social distancing can be properly conducted.
