The LaPaz Town Council members are looking to hire a full-time police officer.
Town Council President Roger Ecker said the discussion is ongoing as funding options are being researched. The town typically contracts with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department or a neighboring municipality to hire a police officer to patrol the Town of LaPaz.
The current rate is $20-an-hour, but the council members are looking to increase that number, if it is available in the budget.
The council plans to discuss the matter further with Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and previous participating departments to go by the current contract or work out a new agreement. While the town has police coverage, Ecker said he’s eager to get an officer hired soon on a contract in order to adequately continue coverage for the town.
