John Glenn students continue to receive breakfast and lunch during the week while school is closed.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell told the John Glenn School Board members last week that about 350 meals are being served on a daily basis. The most meals served in one day totaled 575. Winchell noted that students are being assisted by the Blessings in a Backpack program where free meals are given to the students to get them through the weekend.
Winchell was quick to thank all of the cafeteria staff and bus drivers for their hard work in supplying students with nutritious meals during this uncertain time. He also mentioned that teachers, spouses, Teacher’s Union members, principals, and church volunteers have been a big help in preparing and delivering meals.
As for eLearning, Winchell said he’s proud of the staff in doing what they can to make sure they are delivering instruction virtually to the students. Those taking classes that deal with more hand-on applications are improvising the best that they can, but plans are going well.
The school board is waiting for more information on the governor’s orders to see how the summer months will play out with summer school and the start of the next school year.
