IRS Recommends Taxpayers File Electronically

For the safety of citizens, officials from the Internal Revenue Service recommend that taxpayers and tax professionals use electronic options to process tax returns, refunds and payments.

The tax filing deadline was previously extended to July 15, 2020 from April 15.  Taxes due must be paid by July 15.

All taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider or IRS Free File.  The IRS isn’t able to process individual paper tax returns at this time.  If paper returns were filed, do not file a second return and not write the IRS to inquire about the status of that return.  Paper returns will be processed once centers reopen.

The best source for information is online at www.irs.gov which includes answers about tax law questions, refund status, and tax payments.
