Governor Holcomb Issues Additional Education Waivers

Governor Eric Holcomb signed an Executive Order on Friday morning that waives a few other educational matters for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Latch-Key Program requirements are suspended.  It requires a school to conduct a school age child care program for the school year.  The State also suspended the requirement to conduct vision and hearing tests for the remainder of the school year.

As for annual staff performance and teacher remediation plans, evaluations may be completed on student achievement and growth or teacher observations prior to the suspension of in-person instruction.  School corporations may use final evaluations and employee designations from the previous school year for the current school year.  Teachers who are on a remediation plan and teachers without a previous school year evaluation and designation may use the previous year’s evaluation or have a new evaluation done.

In addition, requirements for CPR training are suspended.  Teacher candidates looking to complete student teaching requirements may do so in remote learning.  If remote learning is not possible, the 10 week requirement may be waived.

The requirement for emergency preparedness drills, school bus drills, school bus inspections, pre-service school bus driver, and annual report publishing are suspended for the remainder of the school year.
