The Marshall County Health Department announced Tuesday that a female COVID-19 patient has died.
Health officials say the woman passed away in St. Joseph County on Saturday, April 18 and the death was reported to the Marshall County Health Department on Tuesday, April 21.
No other information will be released about the patient due to privacy laws, according to the release.
In the daily report from the Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday, Marshall County has 24 positive COVID-19 cases out of 303 tests.
Officials say many people who acquire COVID-19 will have mild symptoms. Those residents can self-isolate and do not need to be tested. Older individuals and those with underlying medical conditions are at higher risk for severe illness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone should wear a cloth face cover when out in public, but it should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
