Administrators from the Culver Community School Corporation are meeting this week to determine several factors inside a continuous learning plan required by the Indiana State Department of Education.
Some of those factors include student participation, student attendance, how teachers are communicating and engaging with students, how credits are being handled for students, how students are able to access equipment in order to complete homework, how the staff is communicating with all in the corporation, and more.
That plan needs to be submitted to the Department of Education by April 17.
The school board did discuss the length of the remainder of the school year. Superintendent Karen Shuman told the board that they could utilize eLearning five days a week and end the school year on May 4, or continue on the current path and end school on May 22. Either way, it would guarantee that the students would meet 160 days of instruction as an amended amount of instruction directed by Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick.
The school board agreed to keep on the current path with using Mondays and Fridays as waiver days and eLearning on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through May 22. It was noted that the teachers are contracted to work and be paid through the end of May so the current schedule is what will best suit the corporation, according to board members.
Shuman said the administrators will work on getting a plan in place and have the board review it before it’s submitted.
