COVID-19 test results revealed another 85 cases of the virus in Cass County as reported in the daily Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) report.
Family and Social Services Administration Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dan Rusyniak said during a state officials’ press conference on Monday that a majority of the cases are related to an outbreak at the Tyson meat packing plant. Strike teams are currently testing employees at that facility. As of Tuesday’s report, Cass County has 1,101 cases.
Tuesday’s report from the ISDH also indicated that 650 additional residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at the ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories. There are 16,588 residents known to have the novel coronavirus out of 87,181 tests conducted.
The number of people who have died of COVID-19 now totals 901. Another 91 probable deaths have been reported. Probable deaths are those for which a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause based on x-rays, scans and other clinical symptoms, but there is no positive test is on record.
Earlier Tuesday morning, officials from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department released information that 19 inmates at the La Porte County Jail and three employees who showed potential signs of COVID-19 were tested and all of the tests came back negative.
Starke County reported 15 positive COVID-19 cases while Marshall County reported 28 cases and Pulaski County has jumped to 21 cases.
