The last online instructional day for Argos Community School Corporation students is expected to be Friday, May 22.
Superintendent Ned Speicher told the school board members last week that there are two days after Memorial Day where school was to be in session, but they will be utilized as waiver days.
He also noted that eLearning will account for 13 percent of the school year while 87 percent of the school year was in-person classroom instruction. Students only have to complete 160 days of instruction as directed by the Indiana State School Superintendent.
After school closes on May 22, meal preparation and delivery will be suspended until June 1. At that time, Speicher said all Argos community members will be eligible to receive meals. If the state reimburses the school corporation for transportation costs, meals will be delivered. Speicher commented that farm families have difficulty in getting to town to pickup the meals. A solid decision on transportation will be made at a later time.
Speicher also mentioned that students and parents have been asking about cleaning out lockers, desks and lockers in the locker room. He said until the governor releases the emergency, no one will be allowed in the school to pick up personal items. If it’s an emergency, items will be placed in boxes and handed to the owner. If the emergency is lifted, people may be let into the school in small groups to retrieve belongings.
Collection of textbook rental fees will be delayed until the fall. Any tickets purchased for any events at the school corporation will be refunded. More information on that and a lot more is available on the school’s website at www.argos.k12.in.us.
Information on a graduation ceremony is not available yet, but Superintendent Speicher says one will happen.
