Culver School Board to Hold Public Hearing Concerning Additional Appropriation

The Culver Community School Board members will hold a public hearing tonight to gather public comments concerning an additional appropriation of $3.2 million.

At a previous meeting of the school board, the members approved a series of resolutions letting the school corporation issue up to $3.2 million in General Obligation bonds. Those funds will be used for the renovation and improvements to school facilities.  New roofing would be installed on the Middle/High School with repairs made to the roof at the Elementary School.  The money may also be used toward the purchase of real estate, equipment technology, and site improvements.

Superintendent Karen Shuman stated last month that the bond issue would not raise property taxes beyond 2019 levels as some of the existing debt would be paid in full. She indicated that the tax rate would be slightly lower with the increase of the corporation’s net assessed property value.

If it the public hearing leaves the board members with confidence to move forward, they will adopt an additional appropriation resolution, and a final bond resolution to complete the process.  A resolution that would amend and restate post issuance procedures will also be considered.

In other business tonight, the school board members will review a resolution for a fund transfer, and award bus bids.  Superintendent Karen Shuman will also deliver superintendent’s remarks.

The Culver Community School Board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. ET in the Culver Schools Administration Office at 700 School Street.
