Marshall County Sees Declines in County Health Rankings

Marshall County’s annual health rankings are declining somewhat. The 2020 County Health Rankings have been released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute.

The county continues to rank relatively well when it comes to health outcomes like length and quality of life, coming in at 24th out of Indiana’s 92 counties. However, that’s three places lower than last year.

The drop was bigger when it came to health factors, which include everything from health behaviors and education levels, to air quality and access to health care. Marshall County ranked 61st, down from 53rd the year before.

One problem area is the county’s physical environment, with the report noting the presence of at least one drinking water violation in the 2018 data. Marshall County also experienced more air pollution that the state as a whole. Physical inactivity and adult obesity are other concerns, with 41 percent of Marshall County residents being considered obese.
