Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman got first-hand experience of Marine Corp training during a recent educator’s workshop in San Diego.
She told the Culver School Board members this week that she participated in several training exercises and truly appreciates the training the students do on a daily basis in athletics at the corporation.
“Kids playing sports is a valuable life lesson and prepares them for the future, especially going into the Marine Corp,” stated Shuman. “We need to make sure, at least at the Middle School, that we keep all of our kids that are in sports in those sports. It would be a good thing to hire a Maritime Lawyer. We can also motivate the high school kids to stay within those sports programs.”
She added that if some incentives could be put into place that would be good encouragement for the students.
She noted that the experience wasn’t just on the physical aspects of that training, but also mental and emotional training.
Shuman commented that it was rewarding experience and she realized that there is a lot to offer to students who choose the armed forces, particularly the Marine Corp, in terms of educational opportunities and career options.
