Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul is working with NIPSCO officials concerning the placement of a retention pond in the upcoming Hoham Drive reconstruction project.
The project includes the widening of Hoham Drive from Michigan Street to a point 260 feet west of Western Avenue. This will allow for a 14-foot, two-way left turn west of Western Avenue and a dedicated eastbound right turn lane at Western Avenue. Curb, gutters and a sidewalk are a part of the project as well.
The location of a retention pond has been an issue for the past several months as initial drawings would have the retention pond near NIPSCO’s property on Hoham Drive. The placement later changed to where it would be placed on NIPSCO’s property as the flow couldn’t work with the first set of plans.
The current discussion would place the retention pond under an existing pond on the property, but the logistics of that location are still being considered. Gaul told the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members last week that it would cost the city more money if these plans move forward.
A decision on placement has not been finalized.
