Bremen Water, Storm Water, and Street Superintendent Alex Mikel is gearing up for the spring and summer construction season.
He told the Bremen Town Council members on Monday that he’d like to replace an 1894 water main on Center Street this May.
“I’d like to ask permission to have JPR design a quick release to IDEM so we can get a permit going so we can install a new water main in-house from about Plymouth Street to South Street and then on the north side from Plymouth Street to North Street,” requested Mikel.
He said he’d like to get that done prior to the downtown revitalization project in June.
The estimated in-house cost will be about $60,000.
The Bremen Town Council members approved that request along with a request to get quotes for material for the project once it’s designed.
To go along with that, Mikel asked that the Traffic Control Committee be given authority to coordinate changes with traffic in the area of Plymouth Street and Center Street during the project as necessary. The town council usually has to approve any traffic changes, but Mikel said the decisions in this project will come quickly and cannot wait for a town council meeting for approval. The town council members all agreed to give the committee the authority to make changes as needed for safety purposes during the downtown projects.
