Individuals making charitable donations during the COVID-19 pandemic should be well informed before finalizing a contribution.
Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill suggests carefully scrutinizing requests from organizations seeking donations. People calling may say they are from a certain well-known charity when in fact they are not.
Don’t be pressured to make a donation over the phone and don’t agree to donate money without further research into the organization.
Hill stresses that personal or financial information should not be given over the phone if an unsolicited email, text or phone call is received.
Go to a charity’s verified website and consider donating directly through the website.
