Decades-Old Sewer Lines in Downtown Bremen in Good Shape

The sewer lines in downtown Bremen don’t appear to need much work.

Ken Jones from Jones, Petrie and Rafinski told the Bremen Town Council members Monday that video footage taken of the decades-old sewer lines appear to be in good shape.

“We found that we only needed to replace five of those 60-some sewer leads,” explained Jones.  “We were also able to complete a pretty detailed inventory of those sewer leads so when we do line the sewer we won’t re-cut some of those openings in the sewer leads that have no use or have been abandoned.”

Crews were looking at the sewer leads in the downtown area ahead of the revitalization project where INDOT crews will reconstruct U.S. 6 there this summer.  They thought if there were a lot of sewer lead repairs to be made, they’d get those done to be ready for the street work.  As it turns out, the lining of the main sewer and the manholes can be done after the street work is done.  This won’t hinder the process.

The five that need attention either have root issues or a slipped joint.

Bids will be opened on March 9 for sewer, water and power conduit work for this project.
