The John Glenn High School upperclassmen can experience a two-hour delay on two school days as a reward for passing the ISTEP test.
John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell reminded the school board members this week that on March 10 and April 15 junior and senior students can come to school on a delayed schedule as underclassmen are taking the ISTEP test.
“We don’t necessarily need official board approval for this because the high school, with its grade of an A, has the state approved flexibility in their schedule,” Winchell explained. “We don’t use it very often, but this is one of the scenarios we’ve used it in and I believe this has been a past practice and the board is familiar with that.”
Winchell noted that students who opt not to take advantage of the two-hour delay will enjoy another type of setting at the school.
“If the upperclassmen need to come in or want to come in at the normal time, they set up a café library sort of setting in the cafeteria. It’s almost like a college lounge almost for those couple hours of the day.”
The school board members did not relay any concerns with the flexible schedule for the upperclassmen on the two days proposed.
